Apart from writing which is basically a form of communication, where women excel, men have the ability to think in abstract terms more so than women. Spatial conceptualisation I believe is the term. List one or more of the areas where clearly men are superior. Men seem as though they have accomplished much more creatively, do you not think women would have have had the same chance time ago if they did not have to wash and clean, tend to the children and cook, while the men where being 'creative'? Times are changing, women are stronger.

Women don't have the innate ability to think in abstract forms that men do, men visualise a problem due to countless years of inventing things and problem solving and it would take a thousand years of evolution to change that, women make up for it in other ways though.
They are better in communication skills etc.
I suggest you read the thread.

No I am female but teach Modern Physiology especially brain function. Sirius was a little too smart for this forum and could have done with some tact as well. Nevertheless most of what he said was biological fact.

You're right about the tact bit. I suppose as a male he was deficient in communication skills.

[Sirius was a little too smart for this forum and could have done with some tact as well. I disagree. If he'd been smart he wouldn't have put himself in the situations that he lent himself to. He may have been intelligent on a level but his social smarts, his ability to understand the human condition (the most important of all smarts) was lacking.

I think she may have meant smart as in 'smart-arse'. In that context, I totally agree.

Ah, I took it to be condescending.
I think I did that purely because it's my natural tone, so all others adopt it.

The trick is to read him carefully and assume nothing then answer honestly. Babs "Beethoven" reply was quoted on that board by him as an example of being inapropriate considering there were great women Authors at the time of Beethoven. The topic originated there as I found out later and he was just trying it out on our mainly "feminine "board where he expected defensiveness. I would have conceded that he was right as men and women do have different strengths and weaknesses. For example men are 9 times as violent as women according to the book "Why we HATE" and common sense dictates that this is correct. Also he did point out the other side of the coin.

For example men are 9 times as violent as women according to the book "Why we HATE" and common sense dictates that this is correct. Also he did point out the other side of the coin. Looking at the whole thing in retrospect, I think the major problem was a lot of crossed wires. The title of the thread was confusing in that it asked 'why are men more creative?' but then Sirius asked in what areas do they excel. Well, which question do you answer? Most of us chose to address the first question which led to social restraints on women preventing them from achieving recognition in the public arena and that is a valid reason why women have been historically less creative. Sirius brought up the subject of Beethoven. He asked me 'who's the female Beethoven?' The fact that there were women authors around at the time means zilch. You need a pioneer to go first and at that time there had been none. Aphra Behn (17th Century) was the first woman to have success in English literature and she was vilified as being unfeminine and immoral. The Brontes all took on male names at first (mid 19th Century) Jane Austen (at the time of Beethoven - early 19th Century) published her works anonymously at first until she was established. If women were still having difficulties in the field of literature 150-200 years after Behn why, oh why, should we be expecting a female Beethoven to emerge during that time? As to Sirius's game playing - he gets what he deserves. Tell him to start a thread on his German board on why women are better drivers than men and then see how defensive men become.

Sirius 1 was OK. Sirius 2 seemed different. More provocative certainly. He certainly didn't tell us we were dumb and puerile the first time round.
