Oops - then sorry, Alice. I got the impression that was all you were posting (I wasn't around when it began). I understand the frustration you feel when you think someone not-very-good gets through... but believe it or not, some of us really do like Casey. Well, I do. And her voice got to me first, but then I started liking her because she seemed like a sweet kid. But the voice came first. And I've never felt inclined to vote for her out of sympathy. If you thought the judges/producers are treating Courtney unfairly and subversively, shouldn't your anger be directed at them? Casey has nothing to do with it - she doesn't control how they treat her. And she also hasn't capitalised on it either. You don't hear her continually stressing that she's 16, nor have we heard an unprompted peep about her life. As for the Courtney abuse that you feel people have been getting away with on this board.. I guess I haven't noticed it too much personally, but that's because I generally am not interested in the Courtney threads (sorry- different tastes). Again, that's not Casey's fault so I don't see why she should be attacked for it. If you do have a problem with it, there's the feedback section to post your worries in. But yeah, doing exactly what you're objecting to, even to make a point, isn't helping the impression people have of you. I don't think Casey should be indulged for her 16 year oldness ands gender either, and she has been. I'm curious do you really think she deserves to be in the final two? On merit? Not on potential, but actual performances over the finals - all of them.

Yes, simone, you other, less likeable self created a thread in General earlier that was quite inappropriate. Luckily I think I was the first person to view it and was able to delete it immediately.
It's just a MENSA candidate showing off their intelligence. Just wait until it blows over so we can all collectively gasp in awe of the brilliance of this person.

Alice - I was personally surprised that Casey got to the final. I was very happy for her because i do think that she deserves to. Most of her peformances were great. As for her being 16, well i think that her age shouldn't matter. She sings beautifully and interprets songs on her own unique ways, whether she is an idol material that remains to be seen

They won't appreciate the excuses.

Hmmm... tough question. If I was to take a cold, clinical approach, and rank each contestant on pitch, power and range, no, I wouldn't think she should be in the final two. But I'm really happy she's in the final two because I like her so much - and that's something personal*. She's earnt her place by working just as hard as everyone else in the final 12. And it all comes down to personal taste in the end... I know that Anthony is technically better, but I don't like him as much. Casey's voice, her tone and the feeling with which she performs, is much more important to me than being able to hit every single note on key (which I am aware Casey has a problem with). I also like Casey's tone better than Courtney's, but that's my taste. So I know she's lucky to get to this point, but complaining about her won't change anything. And no, she shouldn't be indulged for being 16. But again, that's a judge/audience thing, not a Casey thing. She's never tried to use it to get sympathy or to get an easier ride. Anyway, I'm starting to blabber again. * By 'personal', I'm talking about my personal taste, not her personality.

Anyway, I'm starting to blabber again. Well I disagree. She is too young and did not do all the work the others did. She was doing her school work instead of learning her lyrics and sometimes she misses the meaning of the lyrics and it shows. Her tone ranges from soft and almost uncertain to growling and over compensating. She did not earn her place in the final but was awarded it because of sympathy and empathy. I just don't get this myth of Casey. What tone I ask.? When they were raving about her You're So Vain, I thought she sounded flat and too young to understand the complexities of it all. Instead she over dramatised the performance and got PRAISED for it. What? If anything her Misty Blue was less slef-conscious and better. I like pure tone, like Courtney, not affected growls and posturing.
