I'm really excited about the results and interest in my poll
Now that has to be a quote for a man surely?

I've not seen this version of P&P but would out of morbid curiosity - hence my vote.

I did. Don't bother. Basically I know this book verbatim, and any delivery of it I don't like I get pissed off about as some lines are so fierce and witty.
I truly think the bbc adaptation was brilliant. Such fine casting. I know I went into this film expecting it not to be good, and I wasn't disappointed. Keira is too skinny for Elizabeth, Sutherland makes a terrible Mr Bennett as he simply doesn't have the level of sarcasm for it. Even Mr Collins, whilst short, was not snivverly enough and Dame Judy not a convincing Lady Catherine de Bourgh

The BBC adaptation is THE best. And not just for Mr Darcy in a wet shirt.

The photography is better in the KK version and the ending is more romantic (although not true to the book).
I think every version needs to be watched according to its own merits. The BBC version was faithful to the book, but now it's been done before and unlikely to be topped. Therefore I think it was necessary to put a new spin on it. I don't like KK as Elizabeth but the actor who plays Mr Darcy is OK. It also does a better job of highlighting the social distance between Elizabeth and Darcy and makes the period look less gentile and more 'robust', for want of a better word. I'd forget about previous versions, watch this one without prejudice (no pun intended), and enjoy it on it's own level. For purists, it's not as good as the BBC version, but IMO still worth watching.
I'm a Jane Eyre fan. The Timothy Dalton version is the most faithful to the book and as such is my favourite and Timothy Dalton is easily the best Rochester. But I still like the latest version even thought it takes liberties with the book. It's on Youtube if you want to watch it. Search BBC Jane Eyre. I don't think it's been shown in Australia yet. It's in parts and you'll have to 'stick' them together but it's complete. It's a more physical version of JE and I don't know how Jane keeps her virginity in this one. But while it's not in the book, it's still true to the book. The eroticism that is implicit in the novel is simply acted out in this version.

Yes I agree I went in with the wrong perspective and was chastised by Babs for that too. I didn't have any great hopes simply because I truly do not like Keira. I find her sappy and pathetic. Elizabeth is such a meaty role for a woman.
I was also hamming it up for pole purposes.
Welcome back Meg.

Thanks 4213.
I didn't know you were an Austen fan. Or is it just 'Pride and Prejudice'?
