I really have to express my love for Kurosawa. I find his movies moving, visually splendid. they are passionate and emotional.

As for Bergman vs Hitchcock, i've only seen one film of Bergman's many years ago which I was totally stunned by and has made an impression (especially the famous chess scene and the final scene of the characters dancing with Death )but I couldn't really understand at the time. I am also aware of his amazing reputation. Whereas I've seen many Hitchcock films that I have enjoyed and which were all well-crafted and brilliant with suspense.
I'm not tossing a coin and will come back with my decision.

I really have to express my love for Kurosawa. I find his movies moving, visually splendid. they are passionate and emotional. Interestingly, these four are my top four directors ever. I would have Kurosawa as my all time #1. With Hitchcock #2. So there are my votes: Akira Kurosawa Alfred Hitchcock

Right I'm voting with my gut feeling based on sheer enjoyment and familiarity.
Hitchcock.
And will familiarise myself with Bergman in time.

I'm assuming ladypayl is Fyrnn as I haven't been here and music and movies are my priority to any of the other stuff.
So, Ladypayl can I just say that I would say The Seventh Seal is up there as one of my all time most amazing movies and that Bergman does deserve your time.
As for Kurosawa I have so many of his films to watch, and those I have got to, I adore. His story telling and understanding of the human condition is incredible.
Hitchcock is also incredible and probably underestimated for his wit and being way ahead of his time.
along with Kubrik, well Clockwork Orange!! speaks volumes.
Oh God, how can I choose one? I refuse to.

And the dance with Death at the end of the movie has to be one of the all time classic party scenes in cinematic history! Along with The Party, don't you know.

Akira Kurosawa Alfred Hitchcock my final two sigh.
Actually Bergman has a great wit. I especially like the scene where the guy predicts the stupid woman.
