Ferris is great but no way it beats the Club, man. I saw them both on the big screen as a teenager and Ferris is great fun but the Club just give incredibly good angst. I used to be able to do most of Judd Nelson's dialogue from the movie, he gets great lines. Of course I've forgotten most of his lines now, I blame the "doobage".

Ferris Bueller is the greatest teen movie of all. If not greatest movie of all. I don't know about that claim, though. I haven't seen all the movies ever made.
Anyway, again at $5 each:
Rocky Rain Man

I actually didn't think Ferris Bueller was that great. It's ok, but not the best. People hyped it up too much and when I did get to see it, I just thought "meh!" The best part is the song at the end "Ooooh yeaaah!" hehehe.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind & Some Like It Hot: $5 each!! Is that the original cut close encounters, or the recut one from the early 80's where Spielberg added more to the end, or is it the second recut where he adds the original with the new sequences? I prefer the original with Roy having his full break down and the dialogue between the citizens and the authorities. I dont think we needed to see inside the spacecraft as it takes away the mystique of the movie.

When Harry Met Sally - my favourite romantic comedy.
Yeah, I know Babs. No need to say anything.

Okay whilst in England I went on a spending spree for DVDs. So,
American Beauty - watched this with my son of 16. We both laughed at where we were in life through it and were able to discuss our own particular angsts and loves of our ages.
Oldboy, special disc addition for 5 quid - still to see
The Apartment - still to see
Delicatessen - this is completely and utterly zany. Watched it with brother and sister in law who were totally perplexed by it, but saw it's charm as they both speak french.
The Untouchables - Seen before, but not the DVD. Looking forward to spending some time with Kevin, poor bloke.
Full Metal Jacket - my Kubrick collection is coming along nicely. This is a family watching film for me so need to get them all together one evening for this with with time left for discussion.
Donnie Darko - well it was 4 pounds and again, family viewing and the most amazing soundtrack and finally,
Kieslowski's Three Colour Trilogy.

The Apartment - still to see Very thought-provoking film is American Beauty as well as being entertaining. The Apartment - is that the one with Shirley Maclean?

I started to watch in on my nieces' tv but it was so high up my neck hurt hahahah. Would seem he lends out his apartment for sauciness but that's all I got to.

I've seen that movie a few times on TV.
Did you know?
Shirley MacLaine was nominated for an Oscar for that role and was considered favourite to win. Nominated also that year was Elizabeth Taylor for Butterfield 8. Liz was not popular at the time having just recently stolen Eddie Fisher from Debbie Reynolds. Then Liz got pneumonia and had a tracheotomy and guess who got the sympathy vote? Shirley said she lost the award to a tracheotomy.

Good choice. I watched it ages ago on daytime TV. I thought it was funny and quite wry in parts. Loved Shirley Maclean or however you spell her name. Complex performance and Jack Lemmon was rather sweet.

I saw her in Rumor has it on the plane, yuk. How dare she be the real Mrs Robinson.

It is indeed a great movie, directed by Billy Wilder (and his follow-up to the downright awesome) Some Like It Hot.
I have heard that story, Meg, from memory didn't MacLaine not even go to the ceremony, knowing she was bound to lose?

I don't know but I did read that Deborah Kerr, who was also nominated that year (The Sundowners) felt so sorry for Liz that she gave her her vote, thus voting against herself.
I liked Shirley MacLaine in Terms of Endearment and that ballet movie with Anne Bancroft.
