so you are going on public opinion, shame on you. No I picked him much earlier than the fan club got going. It's on Ganesha's sticky. I will be so unbelievably shocked if this guy actually wins this. I dont think he has a chance in Christian hell to win. My theory remains despite the interesting bunch we have. An R&B or Aussie rock singer will win this year. So its either Lavina or Chris M. However my hope is that Damien changes this boring cycle this year. There are some other interesting singers in there like Bobby and Lisa i am hoping will not get to win for their sakes.

This is one sh*t fan club, Bazza. A fan club is for fans to promote and celebrate all that is good in their idol. Not marginalize them.

As far as Chris goes he has no chance.
Ppl are saying how sick they are of Diva's in Idol and that is why Lavina is unpopular in the betting, also her personality is sour.
If you use Occam's Razor to this field every contestant but Dean has a reason that they can't win.
Lisa for example is second favourite but has many knockers, whereas Dean has universal appeal and virtually no knockers.
This South African tag annoys me as he came here at age 12 and will probably remain here.
Mel Gibson came here at 12 and deserted us, yet we claim him.

Is this fandom based on your theory he'll win? I can't join it sorry. He's bland to me. I like characters. There are five fan clubs on idolforums. Dean is by far the biggest, Lisa is next. Dean's has 1449 hits. Ricky has 169. lisa has 868 Bobby 160 Jessica 168 Interesting but last year Lee was huge and had the most post on his section but didn't make it to the final so that's not the only indication - especially of who VOTE I think Dean will make top 3 after that it's the deepest pockets and the most fanatical fans that will decide the winner will put my Idol voting theries in another thread another day GO DEAN - I'm looking forward to you working your magic with the cameras and the music ;D

I still think AI is good publicity for singers, but winning is not the way to go. That's why I agree with TQ about Bobby.
I think winning is a curse.

I think Dean is fantastic and has a good chance to take the crown! The final four (at this stage, early I know but I'll still have a guess).
Jessica Damien Bobby Dean ;D

I'm really interested in how the judges will attempt to manipulate the votes. Idol has been manipulative in other years but this year they seem to be pulling out all stops. This is make or break year for Idol. Will they go for street cred like the Bobby's and the Lisa's? Or will they go for the potential big money makers like Dean?

Personally, I think she's as boring as batshit but she is different from the usual contestants that Idol attracts/promotes. In this, I think they are attempting to get more credibility.

I think it's more about getting some depth of style and genre than trying for credibility. We're tired of r&b/pop and the past two winners haven't really had a distinct, marketable style. Why else would they include Klancie?
As far as credibility goes, it's one of those things you give up when you sign up for Idol. It doesn't mean there can't be great music but you've sold your soul and you have to work to get it back (although a half-decent album wouldn't go amiss). Idol really isn't kind to serious musicians, it's more about creating pop stars than good music and all the contestants come out of it with this tag attached to them.

I think they included Klancie as the token girl among the wildcards. It's not a strong year for females. It's all about the bottom line. If pop and r&b makes them a ton of money, then I'm sure they'll be very happy to have a pop or r&b singer win it. But they also need a bit of cred too, hence the 'alternatives'. They don't have to win, they only have to be in it. The fact that they applied to be a contestent and got through to the final 12 is all they need. If they survive the first few rounds, even better.
I think Bobby is laughing at them. I think his tactic is to enjoy the exposure it gives him but then to declare the show bullshit when he's finished with it. As someone who formerly mocked Idol, he's playing too readily into their hands to be believable IMO.

I've held that thought in my mind quite a bit too, but recognised I need to change my perspective on it. Idol is the metaphoric equivalent of having toilet paper on your shoe for a musician, but if they are clever, and I consider Bobby in this mould, you can turn it around to work in your favour. Dean is Idol fodder and will win the teenage following and the god squad, or the Cougars wanting his cherry.
