I know he won. His voice still blows my mind! Connie was amazing too. Great talent but I have this thing about people actually seeing and realising their own true talent and doing something about it themselves rather than their parents.

I'm starting to find the quest for talent so passe now. There is no doubt that these people are true talents but somehow fate seems to be given a lending hand too much now.
I also find the packaging of idol to be a millstone around potential acts that might have had a better start through more traditional methods.
Like these two opera singer and child, yes both interesting but ordinary people thrown into a spotlight who possibly are too humble to cope and thus potentially ruined.
I feel uncomfortable with child singers purely because the success of the adult transition is marred. Let them be kids. I feel a sense of trepidation for child success as we are forcing them into an adult world and taking them from their peers and opening them up to all sorts too early.
Yes she sounded beautiful but let her be was my first impression.

I think exposing a child to a celebrity singing or acting career without the right supports and grounding is child abuse.
Paul Potts has an amazing voice and he will have a pop opera career because of this competition. I hope it continues after the publicity dies down. I don't think the winners of the UK Operatunity competition have had a successful classical opera career after the initial CD sales and the sell-out production of Rigoletto that they appeared in.

I agree 4213. The whole thing smacked of a "stage mother" or "stage parent" situation to me.
Paul Potts deserves everything he gets. He says that when he is singing he is doing exactly what he feels is right.
