And, yep, as you mentioned, that's what Phillip K Dick's books are all about.

Yes indeed how about Blade Runner "Do Androids Dream of Electric sheep" By philip. k. Dick.
A classic movie.
Total Recall however (the Movie) embodies the real spirit of what Quantum sub atomics are all about.
However you simply must watch it several times to even begin to grasp it.

Absolutely lov Bladerunner - I've watched the director's cut umpteen times and still get something out of it. The Truman Show was inspired partly by a Phillip K Dick novel - Time Out of Joint - amazing the number of movies have been derived one way or another from his books. What did you think of Minority Report?

Agree about The Truman Show.
Tell me more about Minority Report it does not register.
Did you ever read his famous Caterpillar climbing the pole making half the distance each day and did he ever reach the top. omg what a story.
And what a question in logic.
I will give the answer later or may even start a thread on that one it really sorts the wheat from the chaff?
Did the caterpillar make it to the top guys?

Fyrrn,
I have the director's cut Bladerunner on dvd and play it over and over when I lose faith in humanity.
the rooftop scene; the white dove of life fluttering away from the replicant .
And he gives his life to Harrison Ford.
And his (Rutger Hauer) dying speech always make me cry.( Gone........... like tears in rain)
did you know the Blade Runner character was a replicant also.
The Director finally admitted it. and pointed out the paper unicorn was the symbol.
Talk about complex.

Babyooshka proves famous Physicist Edwin Schroedinger wrong without the use of Algebra on reality tv board down under. I can see the headlines. 65 pages of algebra were sent to Einstein for affirmation by Schroedinger before he published this famous theory. Bleh. People didn't believe the world revolved around the sun at some stage. A lot of people still think evolution is a farce. It's my opinion that this theory, to me, sounds like utter crap. But that doesn't necessarily mean it is wrong. As for Blade Runner - I think I may be the one person in the world who likes the original cut more than the director's. And Harrison Ford has stated that though Ridley Scott may say he is a replicant, Ford most definitely isn't.

Yes I did holly - that's why I so prefer the director's cut - y'know the origami of the unicorn and Deckard's recurring dream of a unicorn etc babooshka, you're really well-informed on all this stuff (music etc) that was around when you were still in nappies or way before then! Sorry, have to disagree on your opinion - the original is so annoying with that voice over and it really adds a different level of meaning IMO if Deckard's a replicant.
Minority Report - stars Tom Cruise but don't let that put you off - the basic premise is that in the future there is this police division that exists to prevent murders before they happen - there are three people (pre-cogs) who can see the future and they are wired up to the police computers - once all three can "see" a future murder - the police computers inform the police and they go and arrest the murderer before the deed is done - OK, society is safe from murderers but HUGE ethical issues here - the movie is really well done.

And holly, sorry, I have to admit ignorance about the caterpillar story - what's the title - where can I find it?

I completely disagree - I think Deckard being a replicant ruins it rather than adds to it. I liked that he was a human yet was so emotionally dead and blank, while the people who were artificial and not at all real at least seemed to have a purpose and affection etc - something which he as a human really seemed to lack. I much preferred this aspect of the storyline than him being a replicant. To me it defeats the point of the original movie. I thought it was good, but I really disliked the ending. As soon as I saw it though I knew Colin Farrel was destined to be the next big thing.

Actually, from that respect, the original is more faithful to the book - Do Androids etc..... - I'm happy to disagree which version of the movie is better.

I am not and shall pursue this matter relentlessly until you finally give in and say that I was right and you were wrong.

Babs! What do want from me? Blood?
Do you agree that the voice over is intrusive, unnecessary and detracts from the atmosphere of the movie?

I felt it contributed to the noir-ish atmosphere the film had, in that it was your typical film noir narration.
Also, it exposed him for his emptiness inside. Yes I think the narration was hollow etc, but I think it was meant to reflect him in that it really was how the character is.
